9th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
- TOGETHER AGAINST STIGMA
MARINA BAY SANDS 2019
(3rd Oct - 5th Oct)
The Together Against Stigma (TAS) Conference was an international platform to discuss stigma issues that continue to plague people with mental health conditions, preventing them from seeking help, gaining acceptance in society and leading a productive life. Uniting against mental health stigma, the global community looks forward to keeping abreast of the latest developments, research outcomes and best practices in this field.
The theme chosen was “Beyond the Label – Towards an Inclusive Society” for this year’s conference. This theme is closely connected to the recent launch of Singapore’s first national anti-stigma campaign – Beyond the Label – in September 2018.
The Conference was 2.5 days long. There were about 600 participants who attended the gathering for the good cause. The TAS Conference 2019 was organised by IMH, NCSS, Mindset, Jardines, AIC, Health Promotion Board and Singapore Psychiatric Association and supported by World Psychiatric Association. The opening ceremony was initiated by her excellency Mdm Halimah Yacob.
Club2Care was pleased to be given the opportunity to participate and introduce our mental health organisation and our services to the participants.

Indian Community Leaders’ Forum 2018:
Living Well & Ageing Well in the Community
On Saturday 24th November 2018, Club2Care participated in the Indian Community Leaders’ Forum, hosted by Sree Narayana Mission. This event was a gathering of key volunteer organisations helping the ageing Indian population here in Singapore.
As a community-based volunteer initiative, it is important to have cross-talk across organisations. At this forum, we opened collaborative discussions with the other partners and learnt about the numerous resources already available. The end goal is to collectively provide care and services to the community that are easily accessible and seamlessly integrated across organisations.
It was a truly wonderful event. We are proud that Club2Care and our mental health focus have been recognised as an important aspect of care for the community!

Why do we volunteer? What difference does it make in the world?

Within the prism of the four universal values of Truth, Compassion, Peace and Righteousness, we examined at the kaleidoscopic patterns of these issues as viewed through our own patterns of empathy.

KEBUN BARU IAEC HEALTH FIESTA
On the morning of 22 September 2018, Club2Care participated in the Kebun Baru IAEC Health Fiesta. Our team gave a short introductory talk on mental health, and ran a mental health screening session for the participants.
Our team of 6 volunteers screened a total of 38 participants over roughly 2 hours, identifying 2 for further follow-up. Similar to our previous screening at the HEB Health Fair in July, this screening focused primarily on identifying symptoms of depression (via the PHQ-9 questionnaire). We proceeded to administer the questionnaires for anxiety and OCD if appropriate. The team also went into the crowd to hand out flyers on various mental health topics and give general advice on mental well-being.
This is our second screening session, and we look forward to conducting many more for the benefit of the community!
